Ingredients

Biscuit Ingredients

  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ cup shortening
  • ¼ cup butter
  • ¾ cup milk

Gravy Ingredients

  • 1 pound breakfast sausage
  • cup flour
  • 4 cups milk
  • salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

Biscuit Instructions

  • Get your oven preheating to 450° F.  In a large bowl, mix the flour, baking powder, and salt. Chop up the shortening and butter into 1/4 inch cubes and add to the four mixture, use two forks to further break the shortening down until the mixture turns into crumbs.
  • Add the milk to the mixture while stirring, keep stirring until it forms a soft/sticky dough.
  • Put the dough on a lightly floured surface and roll it out, it will become less sticky as your roll it. Roll it into a 1/2 inch thick sheet and use your most trusted cookie cutter to cut out your biscuits. Place the biscuits on a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper, bake for about 10 minutes, until biscuits are a golden brown.

Gravy Instructions

  • In a pan or a skillet, break up the sausage into small pieces. On medium-high heat, cook the sausage until browned all the way through. Reduce the heat to medium-low. Add half of the flour, let the sausage soak it up, then sprinkle the rest of the flour, little by little, and stir it for about a minute. Add the milk while stirring constantly.
  • Continue to cook until the gravy thickens (It can take a while, like 10-ish minutes) Add salt and pepper to taste.
  • Top Biscuits with the gravy and serve while hot!
