Milkshakes and smoothies have something in common, they need to be simple. If a milkshake has more than six ingredients, something isn’t right. Also, ideally a milkshake or smoothie can be made using fairly everyday ingredients. I am always on the look out for a milkshake or smoothie that fits these criteria.
The Almond Pear Milkshake is something my wife and I came up with. When we are trying to come up with new ideas we consult one of our favorite cooking resources: The Flavor Bible. It’s not a cookbook, but it is a comprehensive guide on what foods and flavors work well together. I wanted to make a milkshake with pears in it. Pears work extremely well with cinnamon and almonds. Note: Not all blenders can break almonds down to a smooth texture. If you have a hard time with gritty textures, replace the almonds with 2 tablespoons of almond butter.

If you have eating difficulties, raw almonds can be tough to process. They are an extremely healthy snack which are great for everyone, regardless of your chewing situation. A blender is the key to unlock the wonders that almonds contain. I use a vitamix blender. It is a titan among blenders. It leaves this milkshake so smooth that if it weren’t for the wonderful almond taste, you would never know almonds were there.
